Virgin Falls Backpacking
Virgin Falls Backpacking
We stopped at the Cable Crossing campground. It was actually our first backpacking trip and, like all newbies, way overpacked. I barely made it back to our car, as we went via the Martha's Pretty Point lookout and my 25lbs pack still gives me nightmares 2 years later. I am now an ultralight backpacker, with my total weight minus water is 12 lbs and under.
The Cable Crossing campground was amazing. We stayed at the site closest to the cable, which was actually on the side of the hill overlooking the crossing itself. There is an abundance of trees to hang from, but you will have a difficult time finding a level spot for a tent. The lower campsites all collect water as we discovered after a downpour. The trees and pine needles smelled so fresh and it was so quiet. Plus you get to watch people try and hold onto the cable and cross the creek.
