Human Noise: Moderate during the day with boats on the lake and families enjoying the park. After quiet hours begin at 10:00 PM, it becomes very peaceful. The park rangers do an excellent job enforcing quiet hours.
Wildlife: Excellent. Deer are common throughout the park and seem very comfortable around people. At night we heard an impressive chorus of frogs and owls echoing across Old Hickory Lake.
Mosquitoes & Ticks: Mosquitoes were present, especially after sunset, so bring bug spray. We did not encounter any ticks during our stay.
Hammock Friendly: Excellent. These are hammock-only campsites with numerous well-spaced trees. We had no trouble hanging multiple hammocks.
Tents: Not permitted. These sites are designated for hammock camping only.
Kayaks: Outstanding. The campsites sit roughly 100 feet from the boat launch, making launching and storing kayaks incredibly easy.
Camp Cooking: Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with plenty of room for camp cooking.
Additional Notes: There are only three hammock-only campsites. A hiking trail passes beside the sites, making it easy to combine hiking and paddling. After the boat launch closes for the evening, the shoreline becomes surprisingly peaceful. This remains our favorite hammock and kayak campsite in Tennessee.
