Bledsoe Creek Field Journal – June 2026

Bledsoe Creek State Park, Hammock Site #3, June 2026

🌳 Hammock Friendly: Yes
🔥 Campfire Friendly: Yes

After several months of recovery from foot surgery, I needed to get out and camp, so I wanted a simple camping trip focused on rest rather than activity. Plus, I'm still in a fracture recovery boot, so it had to be easy because my husband was doing all the work :) We reserved our old favorite at Bledsoe Creek State Park, hammock only camping area, site #3. The site has plenty of trees for hanging all sizes of hammocks, and is a great spot for wildlife watching.

Throughout the trip we watched deer along the shoreline and wonder next to our camp, we saw ducks on the lake, and three different great blue herons. One heron spent time hunting near the boat ramp while fish broke the surface of the water. You can hear so many songbirds during the day, along with the gentle summer cicadas that sing at this time of year. At night, the owls, frogs, and fireflies came alive and were amazing to listen to and watch while we sat around the campfire.

One of the best parts of staying here is the sunrise early in the morning. This time was no different. The lake is stunningly beautiful at this time of day before the campground wakes up. This is one of the reasons we love this spot so much and keep returning. Plus, it's less than an hour away from home, so it's a quick trip from Nashville.

Like most public campgrounds, there were occasional reminders that we were sharing the park with other visitors. A park ranger spent part of the day reminding people that swimming is not permitted in the lake (even though there is a big sign), and a few campers wanted everyone to listen to their favorite playlist. But when 10:00 PM quiet time arrives, everything becomes silent. As many times as we have stayed here, once 10:00 PM hits we never hear a peep, no kids, dogs, cars, nothing. So good on the park rangers for keeping everything in check and making the campground enjoyable for everyone.
