Frogiagon Alley, Westpoint, TN
HipCamp Reed Creek Frogiagon Alley, Westpoint, TN
To reach the campsite, you go drive across a small stream and hang the first right. The forest eventually opens into a clearing beside a small pond. Because we visited before the trees had leafed out, there was some distant road noise, but traffic was so light that it never detracted from the experience.
The occasional barking dog could be heard in the distance, but the creek and frogs easily drowned out those sounds. We spotted an armadillo, listened to owls calling after dark, and spent time exploring the interesting rocks and fossils scattered around the campsite.
The site was level and offered plenty of trees for hammocks. Neither our Android phone nor iPhone on AT&T had any cell service, but the dark sky offered excellent stargazing opportunities to make up for it. The campfire was easy to enjoy thanks to the abundance of available deadwood. “Frogiagon Alley” absolutely lived up to its name.
The nighttime frog chorus was everything I had hoped for, and falling asleep to their calls mixed with the gentle sound of rain on the tarp made for one of the most peaceful nights I've experienced. Though it was cold and I was freezing (as usual) I slept amazingly well and would happily return.
